Description
The purpose of this applied professional project is to design and implement an interdisciplinary class for The Klahre House alternative high school students that integrates 3 parts: current environmental issues, how we came to be this way, and visions for the future. There are many underlying and deep-seated attitudes towards natural resources and the Earth that should be explored in conjunction with environmental problems and solutions. The idea of developing "ecological intelligence" and examining issues from a systems-thinking perspective is essential to fostering and environmental ethic. The goal of this curriculum is to design and implement a high school level environmental science curriculum that creates a shift in students' worldviews from the human-centered to the ecological. In order to measure the success of this goal, pre-course and post-course surveys and assessments will be used to gauge student attitudes, opinions, and the extent to which the students consider the relationship between first-world culture and environmental issues with an awareness they did not have prior to taking the course
